The club will now be presenting Junior Star Awards. Juniors can move up through the award scheme with increased performance balanced against the standards set. The current full list of awards and levels of achievement necessary for each distance category are listed as below.
Conditions of Star Awards
The Star Award scheme is set as a fun, ability promoting scheme that is inclusive to all Juniors within the club. The scheme very much works with the current ethos of the Junior Section of having fun, promoting teamwork and ensuring the best effort possible.
This is not a competition. It is a fun initiative which will help the Juniors consistently work towards one goal to the next throughout their time within the Junior Section.
The awards are open to all Juniors aged from 8–17 years old and are gender based.
The initiative is open to both first- and second-claim members of the club.
The awards are defined from National standards. With Star Award 10 being defined as a UK Top 100 Junior standard, working down to Star 1, which will be a competitive target for all Juniors.
Juniors will not need to earn a Star Award at each level. For example, if their first run sees them run a time which is at Star Award 3, they will not be awarded Star Award 1 & 2, they will be awarded Star Award 3.
Star Awards can be only awarded based on times in the following events: Junior Championship events, local timed fun runs or events of the qualifying distance and Junior Parkruns.
Star Awards can be awarded for events which are not part of the Junior Championship, so long as they are officially recognised as the race distance for the Star Award being claimed.
Star Awards will only be awarded for official race times. This will include Junior Championship events, official race published results and published Parkrun results.
A Junior Star Award will not be awarded for a qualifying time which is not officially recorded or registered. For example, unofficial training runs and runs downloadable from tracking devices will not be awarded if there is not the accompanying evidence as previously stated.
Junior Coaches will do their best to monitor all local races for levels of performance to be awarded. Realistically we cannot monitor every race within the UK. So, we would ask for parents or Juniors to notify a Junior Coach of their performance or log them on the Results portal on the club website.
Star Awards will be awarded for performances from April 1st 2019. Any performances before then will unfortunately not be considered.
