Club History

Riverside Runners has a rich history, established in 1987 we have enjoyed much success and pride ourselves on being a club for all.

First meeting held in The Old Sun Inn, Eaton Socon on 17 September. 18 members.

Monthly meetings held in the Wagon & Horses, Eaton Socon.
Introduced clubs running vest and kit. 38 members.
10 runners in London Marathon.
Joined Frostbite Friendly League 30 October. Seniors 3rd.

Monthly meetings held in Coneygear, then moved to RAFA Club, St Neots its current home.
60+ members.
Frostbite Friendly League – seniors 3rd.
12 runners in London Marathon.

Frostbite Friendly League – seniors 3rd, juniors 2nd.
Club Championship introduced. 7 from 9 selected races, scoring points for position in the Championship.
Andy Phillips (Club Coach) wins Swavesey Half Marathon.
Club Member George Bettis takes the Best British Marathon title for age group 50-55 in 2 hrs 41mins 13 secs.
20 ran in London Marathon.
1st team prize in Sawtry 10K – third successive year.
1st Mens & Ladies team prize in Swavesey Half Marathon.
1st Ladies team, 2nd Men's team in Cromwell Half Marathon.

Frostbite Friendly League – seniors 3rd, juniors 1st.
1st Mens team prize in Swavesey Half Marathon.
14 members ran London Marathon.
35 members ran Great Eastern Half Marathon.

Club wins both senior and junior Frostbite Friendly League for first time
Round Norfolk Relay, position 6 out of 19 teams entered.
First International Event – New York Marathon – 9 members completed the race.
1st Ladies team Swavesey Half Marathon
1st Ladies Vets team Werrington 10K

Round Norfolk Relay, position 7 out of 22 teams.
International event – Dublin Marathon.

1996

Championship results were age graded for the first time. In Eric Foxley, this produced a Club Champion who was a senior citizen.
Frostbite Friendly League – seniors 6th, juniors 2nd.
Round Norfolk Relay, position 7 out of 16 teams.
1st Ladies Team St Ives 10K.
Four members selected for Cambridge in the Inter Counties Cross-Country Championship.
Tenth anniversary dinner & dance held in The Willows Suite, Wyboston Lakes.
International event – Amsterdam

Age grading of the Club Championship would be every other year.

Start-up of the Club’s New York 2005 savings club.
